so i just purchased an awesum TL-550 (like new) for a givaway price:thumbup:.. its a complete system with all original accessories plus i gt from seller an upgraged skimmer aswell (wg428)....

to give it some SWAG... i will run it hoodless with a MH unit suspended from ceiling or bracketed to wall and add a REEF OCTOPUS BH-1000 skimmer and a chiller for those hot summer days(still @ come);)...then to combat evaporation,i will add a reef oct atu unit and may also run a dosing pump and control unit in near future:p

Hello and Welcome.

Welcome. Why not look at an LED unit instead of MH and then you should be able to skip the chiller.

Welcome to MASA,
+1 on the leds this tank doesn't look good with an open top.

not a bad idea, but are the leds sufficient for some sps as well?

agreed!!! DIY some LED's! It's easy!

it would be easy if i were into diying but im pretty useless in that regard lol

ive seen an open top tl550, looks awesome, had an led pendant hanging from ceiling and filter compartment was covered with black perspex, pretty neat looking

welcome to masa and the 550 brotherhood

thanks dude, ima steal some ideas from u guys tanks:p hope u guys wont mind

Ok I see if you going to cover the back it should look better.
Why not hang an led fixture from the ceiling then.;)

Yes LED's are very effective. You wouldn't even need the narrow angle lenses on a 550.

awesum i will check it out,thanks.....

also,what are most suited pumps for a tl550 and best placements @Len @mandarinman @Mc

i dont have a really big budget so i was eyeing the boyu wavemakes(dual) with controller and set it up similar to mandarinmans in beginning of his posts (yay or nay)

I ran the sun sun that put out about 5000Lph in my tank for quite a while without any problems, untill the suction cups stopped working. The boyus also quite cheap specially for controlable pumps, and don't look too bad but I have never really seen them in action.

Also look at seio, and hydor korilia they are reasonable and quite good quality.

I have a vortech mp10 now and I really love it, but that is going to cost you.
The tunzes are also great quality, but also not so cheap.

Check Rory's post has a link to the rapid site and they have pricing on there site.

I want the sway effect , and also read that multiple flow patterns is healthy for coral and fish as it mimics there natural sea movements.... You can achieve that via one pump ,vortech, but at a high price, so I'm just looking to replicate same conditions with 2 cheaper controlable pumps ....
