Hi

My tank (Boyu HS-60) came equipped with a Boyu WG-308 skimmer. I have not even got water in it yet, an I am already having issues with it. The "bottom" keeps on falling out and I have realized that it has not got a removable cup (got to take the whole skimmer out).

What options are available (and how would you guys rate it) for a small internal skimmer. I do not want to hang anything on the back.

It has to fit into a area of 13.3cm x 11.5cm and not be taller than 50cm max. It has to handle a 128l tank.

Basically, is there a skinny, tallish, internal skimmer out their that is good?

Howzit Len I have the same boyu wg308 & it has a removeable cup.

You can try to find a reef octopus NS80 nano skimmer it runs like a dream but not sure where in SA you can find it otherwise get it online.

You can also try the red sea berlin uplift 60 it uses a limewood airstone & also works very well. (can find this 1 at any LFS)

I'm sure sure of the tank itself but I have the tunze 9002 skimmer - small quiet and seems to work pretty well... maybe an option too?

Shortlist

Hi, absolute beautiful morning in Cpt!!!

Here is my skimmer that came with the tank:

Boyu108II.jpg

Can't think of anyway to clean the cup without taking the skimmer out (and loosing the setting and hight)? Or am I just technically challenged?

OK, so far I have:

- New Hydor slim skim
- Tunze 9002 skimmer
- Reef Octopus NS80 nano skimmer
- Red Sea Berlin uplift 60

I don't think i will go with the Red Sea, will have to add a air-pump to the setup then, running out of space and have not even got a top-up worked out yet.

Any Sponsors selling these? Price and availability would be appreciated.

Had a bit of a read:

Like this one a lot, but don't think the side pump will fit into my filter chamber, on got a 13.3cm x 11.5cm fit it in.

Wonder if one could put the pump under the skimmer and use a length of flexible hose to plumb it into it? Not sure what will happen to the bubbles? :confused1:

Only rated for 80l, so may be a bit small, but perhaps the supplier is more truthful?

Looks the best of the lot, but way to big, even if it fits, there will be no space for the water to flow pass. Will need to take the lid of to fit that cup.

The nano one looks like a perfect compromise, footprint is perfect and fit in under the lid. Reviews seams to be positive.

Has anyone used this?

Is there a sponsor who supplies this?

I have a Tunze skimmer in great condtion for you. I think its the 9005 model, will check later.

I have the boyu 310 which is almost identical to the 308 as far as I know the cup is removable but if pushed too far down the litle tabs on the cup go past the oring at the top under that grey ring and makes it very hard to remove. so try keep it above thoes they are just little bumps in the plastic.

How long has the skimmer been running mine took about 2 days before it started skimming and then it was just a light green tea and over the next 2 weeks or so started skiming a darker green liquid. Definitely not the best skimmer in the world but it did still make a huge difference to my 250l very lightly stocked system.

I now have a jebo quadraplex I was given by a friend which also took about 36h to start skimming and now is producing the same green tea that the boyu made but in much bigger volumes its only been runing for about 4 days now so ive got high hopes.

If anybody wants to get rid of a tiny skimmer (even if it's pretty useless) please pm me... Sorry for hijacking your thread Len...

Have seen a few for sale for as little as R100, no idea if they work.
