Pavlov effect in fish

So ever since I started stocking my livestock I started experimenting when feeding.Each time before I fed I first shaked the food container in front of the tank within the fish's line of site.After a few times of doing this the fish started to "recognise" the container........and hen spotting it they will all congregate in front of the glass like eager little puppies.I even tried shaking other containers of differant size and shape and colour........and to my amazement they only seem to react to the certain container.
When feeding mysis the same thing occurs.........I always first scoop a little tank water to thaw the mysis in and then "inject" it with a syringe with a 5 cm surgical tubing attached to the front.The fish have noticed the "pattern" and when I scoop the water they start to congregate in the centre of the tank.......and when I insert the syringe they will all come to the mouth of the surgical pipe and grab the mysis as it comes out.

"Training" fish as it were..........lol:tt2:
 
I dont even need to shake a container, my fish see me as i enter the house everyday and they start going crazy wanting to be fed
 
Lol......that's why I'm taking the Pavlovian approach......cos everytime I want to photograph my corals they blocked my shot........lol.and so far its working hehe
 
i have trained my fish to come to my hand for food. that way if i need to remove a fish i scoop from behind them while focussed on food.
 
Thats pretty cool! I think I should try it. These marine fish are smart!
 
ive seen a peacock mantis that was trined to read the finger prints of its feeder (granted they do have the most complex sight of any living organism) but if he held his index finger to the tank the mantis would emerge and wait for food, if anyone else did it he stayed in his cave untill they were out the room and then fetch the food. If i placed my finger next to his he wouldnt come out at all, and if i took mine away the shrimp came straight out. Truley facinating things:)
 
When I grap the towel...just realised it's pink...:lol:....my one Nemo knows it's do-do time as I put it over the one side of the Tank, so that the Lounge light doesn't shine directly on them when I've switched the Tank light's off...:p..he then comes to the bottom front corner..(my left)..goes right down on the gravel and presses against the glass..then I "stroke" him thru the glass..it's usually for about 5min...then I stop and he then goes to his hosting spot, at the back of the Tank...:p

I get this with my bathtub fish to, Malawi's.
They seem recognize footsteps.
We tested this with a friend of mine. She would go to the tank without me there and they would all swim away from her and hide but if I approache the tank they come out and swim up and down the front of the tank. If I pull my finger left to right and back they would follow but if my friend does it they still swim away and hide.
The do recognise their caretakers. Think it's the energy we exchange with them coz we love them so much.
 
ok so how do I teach the lil @#$%& not to host in my bloody Torch!!.....lol.....poor coral getting base raped.....lol

its unlikely that they will shift from a host like that, im afraid the most likely outcome will be the death of the coral:( best to swap that coral with something else from a fellow reefer and try get them to host in something like a pincusion or kenyan tree etc.

got a large clump of xenia.....(Arries nemos host in his).....they not even looking at it....lol
 
Cover the torch with a 2L coke bottle bottom cut off with holes big enough to allow flow but to small for the fish to fit and see if they will take on the xenia then ?

Force them to go to the xenia.
Maybe this will help?

I saw this in another guys tank. Have no idea if it will work though, I'm still designing my first SW tank. So I'm no pro...

in my experience that will just lead to the fish being blocked from their host and stressing untill such time as they get a chance to go back, but you can give it a go if you feel like. just watch that flow and check the coral gets enough light through the clear plastic, and that you secure it well in place, if the fish get the slightest chance to go in they will.
 
ok.....wierdness.......I had a smaller piece of xenia on a rock and swopped it out with the torch......and now the clowns is beating the crap out of it with their tails.....lol.....I cant believe what Im seeing here.....lol

My fish follow me around. If I walk from one side of the room to the other it looks like a school of fish following you, like that bit in "Evan All Mighty" where the fish follow him :p
