The wife calls at 15h00 and says my sump is leaking water. I am not too worried by this and tell her to remove the filter floss and sponge between the sump return and skimmer chamber. When I get home I find this

and this.

I now wonder if I will be able to keep my sand and rock alive if I can find a big enough temp tank to put my dsb sand and the sump rock into. Plus the 2 Lions and the Rockcod.:(:(:(

What exactly happened?

Oh My *%*^. Would help, but in Jozi! SORRY AGAIN! EEEK:eek:
Thanks Carlos-That is why we belong to this forum. It reminds one of the musketeers-one for all and all for one.
So nice to have friends that understands your problem. It has gone late now and I will update tomorrow.

Thanks so much to everybody who has responded to this thread. I was planning to get a sump to be from my friend Jaques to use until my sump is repaired. Well about 30 minutes later this sump was in my sump room. Is that not why we are members of this forum? Comraderie.
Thanks so much Jaques.

herkie, you cAN PUT YOUR STUFF IN MY SUMP IF YOU WANT TO..%$^%$% CAPSLOCK
Tnks SK will talk to u tomorrow-and to the Magman. It seems so unreal to have the same hassle that so many other reefers has had
The fish is going to be OK I think, the sand will probably die. Or do u think I can still save still save some the in there tomorrow afternoon?

You will have some die-off

But think of it this way, brand new sand got no live in it.
Moving your sand over, will kill a lot, but you will have a lot of survivors. And the survivors will very quickly expand due to all the dead food (other bacteria) around them. A lot faster than a new DSB would take.

Best option, Get new sand and only fill bottom 80mm of DSB with it. Then take the top 70mm of old DSB, scoop that out and move that to new DSB. You can get rid of the bottom part of old DSB. Or keep it, wash it and reuse when you get another bigger sump. (I did that).

Sorry to hear Herkie.

Pitty i'm 160Km away otherwise I'd be there to help.

If you need, I can ask my father if he has any spare tanks around?

Thanks a lot Justin I have put everything in the sump over to another sump.

@ Riaan, Pity I only saw your post now. I have taken all the sand out and put in this temp sump. All the sand and after adding water all is now mixed and I do not have a clue where top or bottom sand is. I suppose I should put all the sand back or do you think I must still get some new sand for the bottom?

This is what this mess looked like this morning.
