It is possible, but with feeding it would be a nightmare to control the water parameters.

Yes, It's 5 liters! The tank has been cycling for 2 weeks now.

    1kg live rock
1.5 kg live sand (Beach sand that I collected about 500m from the beach via surfboard).
HOB filter (I'm not sure what type of HOB filter)
14W Compact fluorescent light (cool light)
2L water changes every 2nd day (Natural sea water)

Oh BTW! I haven't had any algae blooms from using this silica based sand nor from my other pico that I had for nearly 6 months. Why?

so its actually a 2.5L tank after displacement. ;)

I would say the 100% water changes you are doing every second day would keep the algae away :)

    Whats in the HOB?
I say you can only try and see how it goes, as long as you keep up with the water changes I think it might work.

Well... there is only about 2.5l liters of water in the tank and when I do water changes I take out 2l and put new fresh NS in there. So... Ja! It's kind of like a 100% water change. As far as the HOB filter goes.... there is only active carbon in there. Do you guys think I should add some live rock rubble in there? Oh and It's the "eco reef" thingy that I actually want thanks to Fishman but I'm not sure how that works.

I think you can put a bit of rubble in if you don't have enough in the main tank the general rule is 1kg for every 10L but that might be a bit different with such a small tank. I had a 30L with a HOB and it had a bit of rubble in the back if you are going to do that I would suggest you rinse the rubble in the old tank water every couple of weeks as it can also cause nitrates as I have found detrius builds up on it quite quickly. What I did was put a small light on my HOB and put some cheato in it. Also try put some purigen in the HOB.
