Hi, guys and girls

I am new to Marine Aquariums SA and I have been looking for some advise on some led lighting for my "new" tank well it's a couple months old and it doing very well.

I pretty much just going for a basic reef already have my fish and CUC and some live rock and now I am moving on to the corals. So i have some zoas and mushrooms atm nothing special and seem to be doing very well as im getting some small growth from them, but now I wanna get some Lps corals and I fear the basic light I have atm the moment some cheap chinese one is not going to be sufficient. (lol dont mock me):m13:

So basically I Don't have much money to spend and I have been looking around and found this Zetlight Aqua ZA1200/1201 from a online pet store. It seems to have a lot of bang for the buck but I can't seem to find any reviews on it. my tank spec is basically around 60cm, 30cm, 30cm nothing special just wanna know would this be sufficient for lps corals and if any body had some advise as to something better or has a experience with this Zetlight Aqua products please help me out.

Thank you kindly to anyone in advanced.

Thanks so much I was considering that option but the price difference between the two is not even like R50 so may be two Zetlight Aqua ZA1200/1201 In the future sounds like a plan as the Zetlight Aqua ZA1200/1201 has more leds or will it be too much light? What you opinion on the controller it seems quite a awesome addition imo or is it just a waste of money?

@TheWaterboy has these! He can give you more info. I have two 1201 over a 1.2. Two lights can work on one controller.

thats the best option.
the controller turns that 1201 into a little monster!!!!
well worth the addition and as said....you can control 2 units with one controller thus getting much wider coverage aswell due to the space you can leave between the 2 units

definatly the way to go:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

if you keen
give us a shout well put a package together for you

Hi everyone,

After 3 weeks of reading, I have finally registered.

Firstly, if I did something wrong by replying on a thread specific to my query, sorry :m32:

I have a few questions regarding the Zetlight ZA 1201: How have the results in respect of coral health and growth been with this product?

What type of corals will do well with this light?

Will this light be fine if used with a 84 litre tank (60 x 45 x 42)?

Thanks.

Firstly, 60x45x42 is 113 litres.

I don't think the light will work on your tank. I would use it on a 45x30x30 tank.

On your tank you could use it if you plan on low light corals.

the Zetlight ZA 1201 is only 16w.
Doubt it will be sufficient for a tank that is 42 deep.
see it is rated up to 40cm deep tanks, but that will depend on your type of corals and the scaping.
softies could be OK, even low down, like mushrooms and sinularia. No SPS at all, maybe some of the LPS.

Or a very high in relation to tank rock scaping, so your corals sits in less than 15cm water.

Thanks for the feedback Riaan. Much appreciated.

Would 2 units mounted on the side be better or will it still not be enough? I am not planning to keep SPS corals any time soon. Just want softies and LPS.

Any specific light that you will recommend for my tank?

Sorry for all the questions, I have mainly focused on water chemistry, flow and filtration as the tank is still cycling. I did not realise the complexities of these factors. I have done some reeding on light, but not nearly enough yet :m28:

Thanks in advance :m01:

doubt your tank is wide enough to be able to put two units side by side.

Check at Jungle Aquatics. They used to have the Key Led units. At least each led is 3W, by far a lot stronger than the Zetlight total consumption of only 16W. Although I do not see the Key units listed on the online shop.
