The pricing isn't too bad, from an electrical supplier in Centurion

    4W White R35.45
    4W Blue R65.00
    4W Red R39.54

Thinking about upgrading the lighting in the TL450 I am busy setting up for my office, don't need a huge amount of LED's so shipping from the US or China costs more than it's worth to me :)

thats pretty good, on a 450 you would need max 8, but 10 would be good at 70%
    4 white, 5 blue , 1 red

    hi @ScottK

i had a look at those LEDs and noticed that the max mA is around 350 which is very low and they give out only around 200lum... if you take that into a 50deap tank lets say i doubt you'll be able to grow corals with great success. At first i was very excited but after reading the specs on the LED i kinda have doubts.

those drivers are 700mA which is too much for the LEDs and its likely that they'll burn out unless the driver comes with SVR switch like the Mean Well drivers where you can adjust the amperage.
just to give you an idea the 3W Cree LEDs let say Royal Blue have max current rating of 1500mA

It's for a Boyu TL 450, distance from the light to the sand bed is around 250. I wouldn't consider using these on my main displaly :)

Thanks for the advice on the drivers

Forgot to mention, this is to upgrade from the stock PL tubes so the lumen output should still be better than what I have :)

thats a good plan and if they are really able to take that current then they are definitely worth a shot... when are you getting some?

I got the LED's and some heat sinks today, just need to sort out the power supplies. Found somebody that keeps the Mean Well drivers locally but they only getting stock of the driver I want on the 5th of November.
