I want to put a couple of Yellow Tangs into my new tank when I finally get it sorted out. I want to know who has had more than one YT in their system. What has been your experiences with them? How many should I keep together? What are the Pro's and Con's?

I have 2 in my tank, one is larger than the other. The big one is a bit fussy when it comes to eating from the norri clip but other than that they are fine. I would add them in one go so that territory is equal.

I was thinking about selling my big YT and buying 2 small ones and add them together but i've heard a few people say I should aim for 5?

I think 5 is a bit much - Rather add other fish for interest sake

I'm not planning on adding a scopa or a sailfin. Maybe if I hit the lotto one day I'll add a purple tang or 2, maybe even a couple gems - then I'll worry about the yellows but for now I just want to know how many yellows is ideal to keep together in a 2m tank...

Hey Atilla, i'm planning on 2 but i must say 4 does appeal to me. Then again there are so many other fish that i want...
I just wanted to know what would be an ideal number of yt's to keep together in a mini "school" of sorts?

    hy jaak

id say 4 would be the minimum if youre trying for a "school" effect. if you have 2 or 3 they would find their own territories and wouldnt school. this can also cause fighting. i have a sohal tang that chases the whole group of 4 when he gets upset!!:lol: the sohal is smaller than the smallest yellow tang! LOL

I hear what you're saying but would they still establish their own territories with some other tangs in the tank? The other tangs are: Powder Brown, Regal, Blonde Naso and a Spotted yellow eye tang?

Hi Jaak - 3 or 5 mate. I have a "fish compatibility chart" somewhere..... And this shows uneven numbers of fish......
