Hi Everyone. I have a 5ft tank at home and have the following livestock:

    2 x Clowns (Nemo)
    1 x Sailfin Tang
    1 x Yellow Tang
    2 x Damsels
    2 x African Clowns
    2 x Fire Cracker Schrimps
    3 x Helmet Crabs
and some Corals and Live rocks

New Addition 1 x Purple tang. My Yellow tang keeps harrassing my Purple tang. My purple tang is now completely stressed out. Please give me advise on how I can control/get around this as I really do not want to loose her.

Please Help , I am desperate.

    Regards

    Faye

    Hi Faye

The problem is that they are part of the same family Zebrasoma. It is a documented fact that they tend not to play well with other of their kind. I have read that apparently there are some rules with keeping more than one.

They have to be kept in odd numbers eg 3 or 5. Do not know how true this is but maybe someone else can verify ? I also have a problem with my Yellow he is constantly looking for trouble with my foxface. He has come short with the spikes from the foxface and seems to leave him alone alot more!

Is the sailfin giving any issues?
Perhaps remove the yellow for a while so that the purple gets a chance to establish itself, then reintroduce the yellow.

5ft is small for tangs and you were bound to have aggression issues, the fact that they are similar size even more so as the yellow sees a fish the same shape and size as him and needs to assert it's dominance over his small 5 ft territory.

The only thing you can do is divide the tank ,by dividing it in two portions for a week or two(eggcrate division will be good as fish can still see each other) and see if the aggression subsides, if not you will have to choose which fish you want to keep and which you need to find a new home for.

Had the same thing - I wanted to add a Yellow with my Sailfin and Scopas.

Ended up removing the Sailfin and the Scopas for 15 days - let the yellow first establish him/herself, and the re-introduced the sailfin(less aggresive of the 2) first after 10 days, and then the scopas a few days later... they were still "slappin" each other around for the first day, then it stoped.

If you cant remove them, go the route @Achilles suggested - devide the ank so that they can chill out a bit and get to know each other first

    Hi guys,

I had the same problem in my 1.2m tank.
I took the yellow out and put him in the sump for 2days that the yellow find himself then put them back together and now they are big buds...
Maybe I am just lucky but it worked for me.

    Some pics of my tank.
