so no one has ever checked a pink fluffy growth on a fish before?

thanks for the replies guys, unfortunately the little guy passed away (my first loss, although technically not in my tank... I still feel bad :( ).

I had him in small container with some pipes for shelter, he ate a small piece of ocean nutrition and seamed to swim pretty normal... so i dunno what got him in the end.

I had a closer look at the growth on the dead fish, which was quite hard and after a bit of scraping with my nail at it , it looked like there was a small wound just above his gill plate.

I saw some slightly bigger raccoons in the tank in dive factory today and they looked very similar except for the head shape.

the heads of very small b.flies look like that - pity you could not keep him longer to see the colors develop.
