Please help, my xenia is looking very sad.

It started about 3 days ago they were looking a bit worse than usual, but I didn't think too much of it. Today they are looking really bad and I am starting to think they are going to die. I have taken a piece out hoping it won't all die cause my tank is going to really bare.

My water perameters are the same as normal. All other corals look fine.
The only thing I have added is a little bit of extra Xport NO3 which hadn't even started to work by the time it started sulking, also when I added this before(more than this time) it had no affect on them.

I have no idea what it could be.

And your tanks temp? I know Xenia don't like it too warm.

Also check alkalinity not too low and some will say that iodine is also good for Xenia.

    Alkalinity is just over 8dkh.
I don't have an iodine test kit.

I had a Kenyan tree and it died apparently because the water was too "clean" I think the same might go for Xenia.

You can up the alk to at least 10dkh. I try and keep mine around 11,5dkh.

Mine has droped down to 6 once and although the sps weren't happy the xenia didn't show any sign of distress.

They are very temperamental, I would just do a 10% water change and try up the alk a little.

Agree with Brent about the alkalinity and iodine, have to keep those levels up and stable, but be careful with iodine dosing, it can be lethal to livestock if overdosed. Xenia are also well known for suddenly dying for no apparent reason, so don't be too alarmed if this does happen, it's just one of those things that nobody can seem to figure out why.

I have removed the NO3 media from my system, my LPS and softies sulked big time when I was running it, all happy now.

Thanks Viper thats what I've read, I was just hoping I could do something about it.

Len the problem is I take that out and everything else looks sad because the nitrates sit at 50ppm.
Other than that everything else is doing well.

Hi MC, i tend to agree with all answers mentioned here, i previously experienced the same with xenia in my old tank. It turned out to be a combination of factors.
Sudden decrease in nitrates, low iodine & alk & i also experienced that lighting is also a factor.

I got mine through, but i moved the whole colony to my refuge which had t5 lighting. It started looking better the next morning, & one week later they looked even happier than before under the different lighting. (i also dosed for alk & iodine @ that time)

    Thanks guys.
The xenia in the tank is looking worse this morning, but the xenia I took out last night looks a bit better. Unfortunately its hard to take the rest out because its on the back wall.
