So time to do something different!

i have an old xbox 360 lying around suffering from 3 rings of death...
so stripped it and decided to make a pico tank out of it.
here are the progress pics :

    Stripping the cover off:

    gutting the inside:

    sharp edges .....

cut the viewing hole with a dremel and a hand file

    roughly put together.

will be picking the glass up tomorrow. not sure of the actual volume yet.
will use a small canister filter/sump for it with led lighting strips inside the case.

i want to put ricordia and shrooms inside it

    what you guys think?

Very interesting pico build but a bit concerned about the steel casing rusting in the back.

im going to construct a smaller glass tank inside it so that 1. i have a full seal and 2. the steel wont rust

Can you seal the metal parts with varnish or something. OK, not varnish, but another clear paint to prevent the humid air from destroying your creation.

Excellent idea. Reminds me of the "Tanked" series on DSTV.
Maybe spray all metal parts using a clear lacquer to prevent corrosion.

how about getting some Perspex and lining the inside of the casing, using the Perspex as the actual tank and not the casing. would be a lot easier and it wont rust

not going to be using perspex as its very expensive for this cheap build :p but will be using a glass tank construction on the inside of the casing.

Aaaah. Sounds like a plan. Maybe even try to get some clear tint to line the inside, may or may not help with rust

Interesting! That casing would also make an awesome Led unit for above a pico. U could make use of the on off switch and install a digital thermometer and so on in the face of the casing.

You need to do some research on this. Saltwater will eat that rubber spray away like no tomorrow and the toxins released will kill your stock

Try the resin for Fiber glassing - they do Kayaks and boats with it so its tough.

im going to remove the metal insert and just have a plastic surround, with the glass tank on the inside. glass will be cut tomorrow and will buy lights tomorrow. going to be using strip LED's 2 white and 2 blue around the inner edge of the opening so that i will have light from every direction
