Do you not like the look of an open top tank? You will save $ and have a great look.

Hey man thanks for the reply. I dont mind the look of the open tank. I just worry about my cats jumping in and going for a swim. Although if i block the one side of my tv cabinet they will have no place to jump to the tank from.

hmmm might be a plan. Will check what the boss thinks :D

    hi guys

really considering the canopy thing now.

got some nice ideas from the net on how to build it, but i'm still pretty clueless :(

so i guess first things first, what wood do i use?
i obviously dont want too much weight on the tank and it needs to handle the humidity.

    my tank is an aquaria 1500, so its 1500cm X 60cm X 80cm.

how can i work out how much weight my tank can handle on top? is there a way?

i'm looking for the lightest but most durable wood to use.

any and all suggestions, pls :)

    tx all

this is just my suggestion that you get a clear persperx cut out and then attach clips/holders on the rim of the tank check at the people who do lazer cutting of perspex, they most likely will be able to make these clip/holders or check at builders warehouse

Do you just want a trim around the top to hide the lights and water level or something that totally closes on top with lights inside? And what colour wood are you looking at?

@Shepherd1 -- thanks :) will contact him soon.
@marius - something that covers the whole top, lights inside, with a flip top lid. like this image.

the flip top front, is still under design, because i'm not sure which i like more or which would be more stable.

i'd like a dark wood stain, to go with the rest of my furniture.

the catch is that my lights are already on their own stand support thingy, and i dont really want to move them onto the canopy permanently. so the design of the side panels will change from one solid piece to 2 pieces split in the middle.

we will keep the post updated once we have more details on whats happening.

    thanks all.
