drain some of your artemia bottle cultivation through brine shrimp sieve to concentrate a bundle of artemia, eggs capsules. rinse into container with a little tank water. put lid on.

when placing it in tank tilt it to side and burp to get rid of air bubbles. place in tank with a couple of stones to hold in place, or glue on flat pebble. place it in same spot in tank each day. change and fill daily below is the big version with pebble inside and large volumes of artemia pouring out over a couple of hours[IMG]

What sort of problems are you having with decapsulating?

If you release brine shrimp slowly into the tank, you may be feeding brine that has very little nutritional value.

i am a little scared to leave the eggs decapsulating too long. i started out with one minute thirty, lenghtening it by thirty seconds until i had it at three mins while agitating water. finally tonight i upped it to three mins thirty seconds. the eggs were golder so i will see tomorrow what hatches.

as far as the loss off nutrition on the artemia is concerned: i want to have the artemia entering tank over couple of hours while i am not at home( ive got a few mandarins) i am starting to enrich brine shrimp now.

I've never timed my decapsulating process, but I'd have to guess I leave the bleach in for about 5 minutes. I hydrate the eggs for an hour and a half using a bubbler. Then I dump in the same amount of bleach that there is RO water in the container. Rinse really well, then dechlor.

To my knowledge, if you over bleach they won't hatch. Mine have always hatched. I've never had the eggs get sticky.

i did it once where i did it purely by colour and it didnt turn out well cos none hatched so now i am progressing up the time line. but for the last couple of weeks i have been really busy and havent experimented at all. but i have had a little time on my hands today. i am using one of my jars of artemia to enrich with phyto and see how they grow over time and ill alternate that with selcon on different batches to give my fishes variety.

The next time I decap I'll time it. But I'm not sure if different brands of artemia will give different results or not. I always go by the color change.

MM, you should of been a brain surgeon, these tips are fantastic, you should of patented the brine shrimp hatch box.............

Any other tips, start a thread.

i used 2.5 kg breaking strain fishing line and stick it with q-bond as it is the best. stitching nylon may perish.
