I set up a dual boot on my LT with Win 7 and 8 and I've regretted doing it since day one.

Win 7 is the way to go...

If you want the old start button back look at a program from Stardock called Start8.

Windows 8 takes a little getting used to but once you do things are a lot easier .. having said that I waaaay prefer Linux Mint

I would stick with windows 7 for now, from what I have seen windows 8 is still very experimental.
Best way to run it if its just for testing or interests sake, is to download vm player or virtual box.
Both free virtual machine emulation programs, good for running operating systems within operating systems.

Ok so let's put a few "misnomers" to bed.

    1. This is not a test interface its the new Microsoft interface. Its on the Windows Phone, on Slates on PC's and on the XBox. As well as on the new version Office.

    2. It does take time to get use to it, but that is what customers asked for. They wanted touch and the good old desktop. That's what Windows 8 is.

    3. To answer the start button. Yes its gone, no it won't ever come back. The metro interface provides all the access to the programs. Search is the way Windows 8 works. Also remember each corner of the screen if you move your mouse there gives you a little menu.

Yes its different but its a much better OS and has a solid base as a consistent interface across all of the Microsoft devices, applications and OS.

Remember there are TWO main versions of W8:

    1. Windows 8 (for PC)
    2. Windows 8 RT (for slates)

Also remember that Microsoft also released its own Slate to combat the iPad - go and bing (http://www.bing.com) and search for Microsoft Surface.

Hope that helps clearr that up.

NOTE: no fan boys responses. Let's keep this constructive.

XP was a great product but like most good things in life they end. XP is officially dead in 2014. It is in extended support now and only if you have a contract with Microsoft.

In addition you won't get and software or hardware vendors making anything for Windows XP.

It's dead time to really move on.

The good old short cuts still work and I use them all the time :)

    Win Key + R = Run
Win Key + E = Windows Explorer etc

You can search for them on Bing

    Uhm, no.
Get yourself parallels and play with them.
When you are done simply close down your virtual machine and continue to use he better OS. ;)
