I just tried to view my favorite thread on RC and i got this:
So i thought i would raise the question of how big is too big. RC has how many thousand members and how many online at one time? A fair number of thousands once again surely? MASA is growing pretty quickly, the amount of hits 'we' get daily and the number of links back to 'us' is pretty darn good is if do say so myself. I know SA doesnt have the number of reefers other 1st world countries might have and yes we do have quite a few foreign members (which is awesome :yeahdude: ), but at what point does this family-like site get too big to have the same 'feeling' of where everybody here knows everybody else? What are the Admin's hopes for MASA's future about the size you would like it to end up?

I am glad to be a part of MASA, its definitly enlightened me as to what reefing is all about. Thanks MASA

This is a catch 22 situation as the bigger we get the more expensive it becomes to run as for where we see it going....who knows. We never thought that far when we started. At that stage we were counting and congratulating ourselves every time we reached the next hundred, i thought we might top out at about 5000 odd, the one thing i have seen with the internet is that growth becomes exponential in that the bigger we grow the faster we grow. I dont think we will ever loose the family feeling as that is the culture of the board, although the member list climbs as alot of people sign up but dont post so it is the active members that count and makes the difference. If all 3000 odd members were active we would be in trouble already.

Take as an example the breeding forum.
I have asked for this, Dean installed it very quick and I felt actually sort of guilty, when I saw there was not one post after a couple of days.
Look at it now. It grew a lot. Now you guys can imagine, what will happen if Glen gets his Mandarins bred, Michael maybe comes up with pipefish, Frans with more horses and myself hopefully with the damsels soon.
All these will be found a few days after posting via google.
So people from all over the world are going to visit MASA.
The more special the informations are on MASA, the better the listing in google.
Running costs can become a problem, as there are only X- amount of sponsors. The only way to cover the costs might be advertisment from big suppliers or manufacturers.
It is sometimes difficult to keep up with new posts via livefeed.
I would not be surprised if Masa doubles the members by the end of 2011.

they have indeed, all 140 fluffy little things running around outside now, but not without a few dificult births, some week old deaths and Ive spend most of sunday stitching a lamb that was taken by a dog, the last two months have been very busy.

but that not the reason I am quiet. after all the crap with vatso and then seeing him drop a nennie into a 7 week old tank and no one utter a word that its not advisable im simply keeping my opinions to myself and getting on with looking after lambs instead.

i used to give up weekends to go to LFS and take photos of fish for the masa id data base but i feel my time is better served looking after my own tank for a while. besides the mods were getting tired of me:p

We are finalizing and International Marine Aquarium site, in which we all hang out and talk about our hobby, meet and chat with other people from other country, share experience, problem and sucesses, we are also thinking of every continent will have their own forun and have a moderators, RC is already to crowded and sometimes hard to get an answer or post a question that's why we desided to start this, I already made a request with MASA admin to post the site here I'm just hoping they grant my request

    what's your comment?
