    Hey all

I have a nano tank that on most days go up to 27-28deg and i realised i dont want my tank to crash and "i need a chiller"

after doin research on prices, which wasnt an issue seeing that i need the smallest one out of the lot,i also calculated time it would be on and realised its gna be a neck breaker extra amt,and in no way was i gna allow because my initial idea is a low elec cost tank, nevermind the accesories, then i came accross this (purchased from @NADEEM)

    general controller off eBay

ofcourse the fan was not included.i mounted it in an old box type just to hide wiring

and set it up to run min 25.3 max 25.7 and ofcourse it controls heater and fan so most of the time my tank stays constant on 25.6 even on the warmest day :thumbup:so wen it hits 25,7 the fan goes on and within a minute or two its on 25.5 again, best part is wen temp is between min and max both the heater and fan is off,so even more saving on elec bill:yeahdude:

i know im nt the only one running a fan (low elec cost system) but seeing the amount of newbies and most guys just running out ,buying chillers and not knowing the other options is my reason for this post

    keep well guys

thats a very workable solution, i use fans on my sump and as a last resort the chiller kicks in, but fans only work fine. you will have alot of evaporation though

That’s exactly what I’m looking for!!
I agree that a chiller will use far too much electricity.
But were in SA can someone buy this gadget?

25.5 is fine, as long as temp is constant

Just to add i use to make use of fans and have to clean it at least once every 2 months for salt creep and so forth...mine was over my sump and yes i find it to increase evaporation..since then i have invested in a water cooler and this works for me...i coiled tubing into the water chamber and pumped from the maintank into my sump...my return pump in turn siphons the cold water which drops from the cooler back into the DT...and this works for me..

water cooler can work, but this thread is aimed at saving elec and IMO a water cooler is practically a diy chiller solution.... as for fans, they should then be placed on a spot were there is less salt creep coz salt creep is mainly caused by microbubbles hitting surface and causing a micro slash and over time 'salt creep'....

and evaporation being increased i find would be more of a concern for guys who dont have atu units

Can this temp controller make the fans spin faster at higher temps and when it gets closer to the set temp slows the fans down?
