    Hi All,

My Tank is about a year old now. In the past recent months I've started noticing some white swirling or spots forming on the rear tank glass and overflow panels. To remove this from the rear glass is easy using a scraper but virtually impossible to remove from the overflow panels. The problem is that the overflow panels have a rough finish making scraping difficult.

Does anyone know what is the cause for the swirls or spots? Is it some sort of calcium build up!

Does anyone know how to remove this?

An option I'm looking at is to cover the overflow plates with new glass panels so the I can scrape them with ease in future? Removing the spots will be number one option though!

Any suggestions appreciate :) please see the attached photos for comment

    Coraline algae.
Can leave it. Snails and urchins will eat it.

As Riaan mentioned its Coraline and you can leave it. If you don't like the look and if you can remove the panels from your tank, you can soak them in vinegar.

and the back panel looks like sponge/turnicate/sea squirt. Are they soft?

If yes, they are filter feeders. Helping you to maintain your tank. Rather leave them

I can't tell from the pics... do any of these white circles have red feathery things coming out of them?

could be small feather dusters look closely with a torch they grow quite prolifically and are filter feeders so they are beneficial best to leave them coraline algae wont be white unless you have an alk and ca deficiency it should be red maroon or pink
