    Hi there

Was hoping the pros can help! I caught a banner fish/ coachman today in Mosselbay which is very rare here. When I put it in the tank I saw there were white spots on it's tail. I know what whitespot looks like and it seems that these spot are much bigger. What could it be as it came straight from the ocean today?? Maybe some sort of egg on it?

About double the size of normal whitespot.

Ok so I have discovered the white spots on the fish is not whitespot. It does not seem to affect him negatively and it's been almost 3 weeks now. Treated it for whitespot and it is still there. None of my other fish got it. It just looks unsightly. How can I go about to remove it from him?

I had something similar on the fins of a few of my fishes when I first got them. Almost like a fungus but there was no body or fluffiness to it - simply as if the fin itself was white in certain areas. It disappeared within a week.

No it's not that either. It's been on there for more than 3 weeks doing absolutely nothing. It really looks like snail eggs or something. Only on the tail and dorsal fin.

Photo a bit blurry, but it's smooth and hard with no fluff.

Looks like Lymphocystis, common on wimplefish. If it is it is viral and could go away with good water quality.

A common cause of Lymphocystis is rough handling when caught.

I would just let the fish settle for a while and then reaccessed.

Treatment IMO is best to scrape the cysts of the fish with a scalpel and treat the wound with mercurochrome or gentian violet.

Thank you for the advice. The marks were already there when I caught it. Maybe rough seas round the rocks?
