    Hi all

i have this white stuff that looks like a spiders nest growing on my substrate.

i havent noticed it before and i am generally quite observant of things in my tank.

i cant find anything on the net, so if someone knows, pls help me id it and the consequences thereof.

my stock: regal tang, yellow tang, cleaner wrasse, 2 black clowns, jumping bean, diamond back goby. a bunch of pyramid snails, 2 mini electric blue hermits, (tho one has gone mia)

the red pellets are food. usually there is none left because the tangs eat them all.

its about a 4cm long and an odd shape.

i'm gonna add the pics as the orig size, maybe that'll help.

it really looks like a spiders egg sack, with the little dimples and an airy web like appearance.

could a sponge develop on the substrate and in such a short period of time?

Loks like a sponge although vermited snails also "spin" a web, but have not seen them doing that much....soo maybe i will stick to the sponge

That can also be "die-off" from something that crawled in there and died.... I have seen this "film of bacteria" cover decaying flesh in the marine tanks before. I am not too sure that this is a sponge, as my system had thousands of sponges - I have never seen a sponge that look like this. Also - sponges prefer darkness.

looking at the build up of food under that rock i guess its a place where there is little to no flow and "things" end up there so i agree with Jacques some thing is dead there

I got this when I started my first tank - spider like webs over all the live rock (uncured). I guessed it was some type of fungus growing on die-off but never got confirmation
