Hi guys. Just recently acquired a pair of clown's.

Few days after got them I notice a small grey alge like grown on the bottom of the bigger clown.

Been a week now and I noticed the grey growth has gotten slightly bigger and has turned to like a white fluffy texture.

It looks like if I take it out, I can rub it off as it just looks like it on the surface. But too scared to harm the fish.

The fish swims and feeds healthy.

Just so worried that it will get worse, and affect other live stock

    Help much appreciated

Im realy sorry to say but if im corect its marine velvet you need to treat it in qt but they might not survive. I lost 6 clowns to that. Can also be broolynela.

Does it look anything like in this pic?
Check around the gill slits, corner of the mouth and tips of the fins and tail. If it looks like cotton wool, it probably is Brooklynella.

This was on my daughters' fish. She successfully treated both by doing the following:

Removed all copper from QT, mixed up a new batch of water. Not sure but she says copper might not be effective, we may be wrong on this.
Added Garlic guard to the food to get them to eat.
Introduced Paraguard (not sure how much she dosed).
Kept the QT super clean, removed all uneaten food, siphoned the bottom etc.
Covered the front of the QT to prevent any additional stress.

Maybe we were doing too much, but rather too much than too little.

Recovery took a while, but both made it back to 100% health as far as we could see.

Yours looks like lymphocystis, RossK. Which goes away on its own if tank parameters are good and clown is eating.

I single large patch does not sound like velvet nor brook. Might be a physical injury. Does the clown have any other marks on it? Is it breathing normally?

Yup, I see you are right. We learn all the time.
We had the clowns in a bucket at the LFS and that's what they advised - no excuses though, we should have just posted questions right here on MASA. And we could have just waited it out.

I had a look now. Now other marking. Fish looks perfect, just that grow/fluff.

How do I identify if it breathing normally?

It looks healthy, eats heathly, swims normal I assume.

I can't identify any other key indicators.

No other markings or signs that's it's on other parts of the body.

    Not sure what to do
