The White Horse Saddle Clownfish is a new strain of saddle back clownfish which is the latest species of Amphiprion to sport the nearly all white body mutation. Coming from Thailand, the White Horse Saddle Clownfish was first produced by a pair of Amphiprion polymnus in the care of*Ekkachai Hengarnglai (Jay) owner of Worldwidereef aquarium shop in Thailand.*

One thing that makes the White Horse Saddle clownfish unique is that the strain is*incredibly*hard to produce. Starting with a fluke mutation several years ago,*Ekkachai has been working to distill the traits of the White Horse into a reproducible strain but he still only gets around 2% all white offspring in pairs carrying the White Horse genes.

Due to these difficulties the White Horse Saddle Back clownfish is still very rare and likely to remain so until the rate of pure white offspring can be increased. For now only a few aquarists in Thailand have been able to even see and enjoy the White Horse clownfish, but with ORA’s platinum perculas and C-Quest’s Wyoming White clownfish, is there room for another strain of all white*anemonefish in the aquarium trade? Seeing that*Amphiprion polymnus gets considerably larger than its A. ocellaris and A. percula counterparts we think there is – now it’s only a matter of time before the White Horse saddle clownfish increases in numbers.
