At first I thought it was the long nose puffer - Cathigaster Valentini.
    http://www.reeflex.net/tiere/270_Canthigaster_valentini.htm
But then I saw it pop up its trigger fin.

Has those same black saddles on its back - its not a Picasso.

Saw a juvenile in a rockpool today, keen to figure out what it was????

Was definitely not a puffer - had a very pronounced trigger fin that he popped up and down.
Might have been the black saddle file fish.

From what I can remember its face wasn't as protruding.
Also had quite a thickset body, not thin like the filefish typically are.

I'm going to have to catch this fish and get some pics so we can positively ID it !

Saw a photo of a trigger that mimics a toby as a juvenile on one of the forums - local catch, will try and find it

You are quite right though, there is such a beastie!

AfricaOffroad...Black Saddle Filefish is what I meant (couldnt get the name from my confused filing cabinet called a mind !) My 2C instead of catching it see if you can get a pic as it's never a good idea taking / buying LS of which you dont know the requirements

I just want to catch it so I can take a pic of it.
    Will release it straight afterwards.
Its really small, but very easy to catch in its current location.
Got no tank running at the moment (under construction) to keep it in.

I am still convinced I saw a trigger that mimics a toby as a juv, but Frans is clouding my judgement with this darned file fish :)

Well I just ordered Dr Burgess Marine Fish Atlas on Amazon.com.
