From the posts that I've read the finer the sand the better your dsb will run.

    Fine, rounded sand particles with sizes 0.2mm - 1.5mm at a depth of 12 - 15cm :)

If the dsb is 12cm - 15 cm deep does it matter how wide or how long it is?

Yes it does. The bigger the surface area of the DSB the more space it has to get rid of the bad stuff. I think the best would be 40% surface area size of the main display tank.

I would say remove the large dsb grain size and make the entire DSB small grain size.

Hey there bud ... why do want to boil it ... If you can collect from a little bit deep inside and where the water is very clean you collect it and take it straight to put it in the sump with as much "life" as you can bring from the sea ...

I agree chikaboo, Jacquesb told me to go at low tide & dig a bit & grab some that beach sand & put it in dsb & if you want the goggas go to a rock pool at night & shine a bright light at surface of the water & wait a few min then scoop up the goggas that has swam to the light.

I set up this some time ago. It is a compilation of different DSB ideal sizes being promoted from different sources.
