Generally the same family can be next to each other, @carlosdeandrade has an euphillia valley in his tank

Torch (E. glabrescens) is the exception and can't usually be kept with the other species. E. ancora, divisa, parancora, paradivisa, yaeyamaensis and cristata are all fine together.

How far apart do they need to be from each other? I have a torch with a hammer coral placed about 10 cm away and the hammer really seems to be battling despite good water parameters... coukd it be the torch thats actually the culprit?

If one is struggling, then for a test, move them further apart. If both look better next week, you got your answer.

Yep, for some reason they occasionally don't bother each other. Probably comes down to the genetics of the species from different areas. The Indo-Pacific is a massive zone and there is often quite a bit of variation.

I've got a torch and frogspawn close together and when they start to touch then neither looks really good and it's time to frag. It's not all-out destruction like when a Euphyllia touches another coral, but there is definitely some incompatibility happening.
