Where to get steel for stand - slummies

    Hey Guys.

    I am looking to raise my stand but cant find out what size steel i need to buy or even where to buy. im needing around a meter. anyone in EL can help me out?

    how do i measure what size steel i need and what do i ask for?

    i'v measured the inside of the pipe and its 2.5cm.. does that sound correct?

    you would measure the steel's outer dimentions , i am assuming you have 25 x 25 square tubing..

    then the wall thickness is important (the thickness of the steel that the square tubing is made up of) personally i prefer 38 x 38 by 1.8 or 2mm

    it is just stronger and for a 500lt tank (which could easily amount to 700kg once rock is added, sumps are considered etc etc the 38mm would be the better option..

    bracing is very important, so i suggest you post a pic of what you have so that we can offer better input.

    hey.i phoned macsteel today for prices for my new stand.i got prices on 38 x38 mm 2mm (wall thickness) square tubing.they only sell it in a six meter lenth and at R175.00 a lenth.but speak to Allen there he said that if you go there on a friday afternoon he might have some damaged stuff that they sell off much cheaper.if you only nead a metre or so im shure he can help you out;)

    i couldnt measure the wall thickness. theres no place for me to do so.

    i'm wanting to raise the stand 35cm! just that is 1.45m

    and then to add extra bracing i need 87 x 47cm = 2.68m

    Leslie.. went to electrical shop today.. got ballasts at a flippen outstanding price. 50% cheaper than lfs.

    you know where i can get tubes cheap than lfs in el?
