    Howdy,
my big hermit called 'Herman', seems to be popping out of his shell - so it looks as if he is to big for the shell.
How does one know when a hermit require a new shell?
And what shells do i give him to choose from ?
Pics of shells if possible pls.

Just get a selection of shells larger than the one the hermit is in, he will choose his own

Any shells large enough and with a "whorl" for his body will do

    Hi,

It sounds to me that it can be to big for the shell.
Do you have a lot of different sizes and shape of shells over the tank?
This will make him happy. My hermits changed to 3 different shells with in 2 weeks.

Here is some pics of shells that my hermits love. Mine like these , but you're hermit can like some thing ells. That is way it is important to give them a variety of shells.

    Regards

Confirming what the others said, your Hermit is looking for a new home. Add a few shells and he will quickly find himself one meeting his requirements.

If there's a couple of hermits in the tank, they will kill each other for a bigger shell, even snails. Hermits also leave their shell to molt/shed their exo-skeleton and then sometimes another hermy will steal the shell leaving the one homeless with a soft skin. He will be food for something else in the tank very quickly.

Don't give him a bigger shell, you will regret it. I have a blue legged zebra hermit that I gave plenty new shells. It was supposed to be a dwarf hermit but it is huge now. Had to sump the hermit because it got so big that it moves all my corals around at night, very irritating. Rather leave it in its old shell...
