Aiptasia anemone's, they are considered a pest, spread very quickly. You need to get some red sea max AiptasiaX, follow instructions on packaging (I never used it, always used lemon juice, but people say product is better).

You get them for free from the LFS when you buy live rock and corals.
I have tried taking mine back apparently these are sold with a non return policy.

just to expand on the reasons why we say kill them, they are indeed quite pretty but they grow fast, multiply faster and you loose controll of them quickly. This coupled to the fact that they have a potent sting that can and will kill many corals leads your tank to be over run with them in a short period of time and no place for you to keep corals. As they dont need light to live they can often hide deep in the LR spawning small aptasia all the time giving you a never ending problem.

controll them as soon and as fast as you can!

oh and they love to each small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, krill etc, so while you feed your fish the aptasia often feed too, growing fatter, faster and spawn away. if you water quality drops for any reason (raised NO3 in particular) they expolode the population as a defence mechnism, ruining your tank

as pretty as they are, corals are prettier :)

Also got two peppermint"s, never seen them since i got them. But sure they are doing their job too. I use vinegar to zap mine. Just do NOT try and pull it out with your fingers, for one they retract VERY fast, and secondly they will spawn in an attempt to populate.

.. ppl use copper band butterfly fish to control aptasia naturally..(not trying to start a whole debate here). i have a banner fish that does the job faster n will eat anything i feed as opposed to the cbb which are finicky/selective eaters n many ppl believe that they slowly starve to death from the moment u remove them from the ocean. i just feel natural is a better way than chemical, if u happen to mess/spill aptasia-x on anything else in u're dt it too will die..

Thanks @Gary Roebuck have you got a pic of your little fishy that eats the aptasia, did you have to train it to eat aptasia at all, do all the fish eat aptasia or is it specific individuals?

no pics on hand Wes, looks like a moorish idol (google is u're friend). pretty sure they all (all banner fish that is) eat just about anything, hence my belief that they are a less cruel option than the cbb's, n besides 2 in a dt look really cool!

ps: if i'm adding corals or lr and i find a piece with aptasia on it, i buy that piece just to give the banners a treat!:tt2:
