    Hi Guys

So after getting quotes and eventually got approval from the minister of finance.

My next step is a skimmer.

So what type, make and models must I look at?

The more research I do the more confused I get.

Tank liters will be about 800liters excluding sump with eventually when im ready sps corals.

Any suggestions from you guys for a good value for money skimmer?

Vertex Alpha Series 170 or 200

Depends on Budget, you can also look at Reef Octopus Range

For value for money and good performance, look into the Reef Octo range.

red devil, vertex alpha /omega, aquamedic aCone, and reef octo cone series are skimmer id suggest you look at, these are top end skimmers,

skimmer rating is suspect on some of the cheaper brands and i look very closey at the pumps more than the actual skimmer when i buy. dont get me wrong, both aspects (skimmer body and pump) are important but a good water and air ratio is extreemly important when looking for a top end skimmer.

also be mindful that "true rated" skimmers basically skim perfectly in relation to what they claim, there are many skimmers claiming 3000lph and 4000lph skimming capacity but these are thumbsuck values (boyu and macro aqua - before dc pump) spring to mind...

a good skimmer generally has had alot of thought put into it and there will be alot about it on the net..

this is a very important piece of equipment IMO and i personally believe it should be allowed a rather large portion of your budget..

good luck in deciding we are fortunate to be able to choose quality skimmers these days.

@leslie hempel , some very good advice there, the 2 most expensive pieces of equipment is your skimmer and lighting. Unfortunately pricing does vary quite a bit between brands that do the same work. This is why this forum is here, to ask questions and to get experienced answers.

As Leslie has said - google and if you struggle to find info on a product then stay far away from it. Its a good guide to judge a products popularity out there.
