I started my TL-550 LED last week Monday. I have added 5kg sand and 3.5kg of unseeded rock and 1kg of seeded rock. There is a lime light green algae on the unseeded rock, glass and sand. I have done searches and it looks normal in a new system. Will upload some pics of it tonight.

Now my question is do I run the protein skimmer and the UV or do I leave them off until the tank is cycled. They have been off for this week.

I know the standard protein skimmer is not the best I plan to upgrade to the Tunze.

can run the skimmer, although it will not pull out a lot. the UV is not really needed at this moment.
