I'm curious to see who's using what type of lighting over their tanks? Please vote on the poll above, thanks. :)

lol, it's not funny I know, but it is odd how we can be kept amused by just having rocks in water. :p

Im struggling to decide between the zetlight and pharos, currently have the pharos over the tank. i will put the zetlight up for a few weeks and see how the corals respond and decide from there.

    Zetlight and a Kelo light.

When my 1.3m gets set up it will be Zetlight with T5s and my frag tank will remain with the Kelo LED unit.

    ok il do it.lol

I reckon for overall coral health and colour, t5 is better than led. I am planning to incorporate t5 lighting with my led units for better light spread and less shading of corals

That being said, I reckon the running costs of good quality t5 units and bulbs are a prohibiting factor

    Agree.
Problem i have with LEDs is the rate at which they changing. There doesnt seem to be any benchmark or clear guideline of how many watts/brand of chip/colour/depth/etc to indicate what you need. Buying seems to be done purely on light spread so who knows if you providing too much.

I've been testing the T5/LED combo quite extensively. I've got some of the best LED's running on a DIY unit, 42 * XTE Royal blue with a bunch of Cree XML's. I think LED's look incredible in the blue end of the spectrum, and for moonlight purposes. HOWEVER, they do seem to lack that "crispness" that T5's offer. I actually find the shimmer that LED's bring to be quite bothersome, I do prefer the crisp clean look of T5's. As for growth, I've had that on both T5's and LED's. First prize for me is a combination of both LED's and T5..
