Wich kind of wood would be best suited in for a cabinet around my stand. I dont want to go too expensive either anything in the price range of weatherproof board should be ok.

Hi Johan - why not investigate normal "shutter board"? It is much cheaper than the other options, and water proof?

marine ply or balauw (i hope the spelling is correct) balauw is used at beach houses and waterfronts etc

Johan - Shutterboard is used a lot in the building trade. My dad used to be a property developer for a VERY long time. And you should see the abuse that shutterply/shutter-board can handle! It's super strong, water/weather-proof - and the outer sides (left/right flat side) usually has a very nice grain. Basically, it's very thinly cut pine sheets, bonded together..........

Johan - try Builders Warehouse - a 2.4 metre by 1.8 metre sheet usually costs around R299.... Sometimes Builders have these on special for R229....

Shutterboard is a good idea, but I'd like to suggest that you treat/seal the shutterboard. Pine and water don't mix.

You can just seal the wood that you wna tto use. Woodoc 50 will be more than enough to protect any wood. Its used on boats.

Moz - shutterboard is already pre-treated to be 100% water-proof. I have NEVER seen shutter-board become disfigured at all - even after standing/lying in rain/rain-water for 2 weeks on-end......

I've seen shutterboard in very bad shape, granted it was a contractors used for shuttering and I don't know how old it was.
