What is this star doing ?

    Yeah - Warren. It's absolutely COOL how starfish can contort their bodies. Have seen more strange positions that my starfish take up. Especially when they "come up for air" (very few occasions) - they go to the top of the glass all the way, until they reach the water surface, and then they seem to "spread" their legs sometimes out JUST below the surface of the water, with tiny suction cup tentacles "tasting" the air... perhaps they feeding - I don't know.

    Ok thats just strange, amazing creatures these.

    that is quite normal behavior for a reef grazing or burrowing seastar.

    i know if anyone wants a HUGE blue star and has anough detritues to handle it and lives in CT can have it for free

    If seastar is on glass, he is looking for a place with more food, try to feed him something once a week Fishy steve.

    Yip Ocean my blue star does the some.

    He aint on the glass, he's hanging off the live rock with only two arms. I know it's a bad pic but thats the best it gets with a nokia 5300

    Steve, you have that size seastar in a 140l tank ?

    Are you able to targetfeed him ?

    You have to feed that star or he will slowly die.
