There a few other nanos that you can look at as well, that might be better. Ive got a buyo but if I could do it again Ill buy an aquaria nano.Just the fact that its got better lights.dont get me wrong ,I love my boyu but the lights restrict you and its difficult or expensive to upgrade without losing the hood. What size do you want to go for? (what is your budget?)

I agree...if I knew what I know now, I would never have bought a BOYU...lights are a problem and so is the Skimmer...I'm sitting with a BOYU TL-450 and I can't fit a better Skimmer in there as the dividers are to small for other better Nano Skimmers...you don't have a problem with the TL-550 as there dividers are a little bit bigger...but then you still have the light problem...

Boyu tanks are good, but if you want big lights then you go for a Boyu HS 60(metal halide) but then your temperature goes up and this means purchasing a chiller,I own a Boyu 550 (1 size smaller than the HS 60) I think its pretty good,I keep most corals and they all surviving and doing rather well.Anyway its a good tank the chiller works fine for me and you just replace light bulbs every 8 months or so.My 2 cents worth

I have a 35l boyu nano tank. Think it is the m302. I removed the hood. Added a hang on back skimmer and hung 56w of leds above it. All boyus are fine. It is want you want to house in it. Think of what you want to keep first and plan accordingly. Anything is possible if you have time and money and that is what this hobby is about.

IMHO I'll then not get a BOYU as you are sure to end up having to do major mods on it and it won't end up being "..always look so nice"
For that very reason I bought a "plug in and play"..but if you don't want to dismantle the thing...like me...then you find yourself in the same spot as me...very limited..my 2c worth...

Post your request in the Sponsor's forum, they will respond or look in the For Sale Forum.

You can hook up any chiller to the Boyu, I have a Hailea 250 on my HS60 (note this is 128l, not 180l). The filter area is also nice and wide with a separate lid. I manage to fit a serious pump and a Hydor NanoSlim Skimmer in there.

Also look at the RedSea 130 Max (I think), it is a similar size, with 104W non MH light, so no chiller needed. Think also a fair skimmer. I saw on for sale in the forum in Cape Town not to long ago.

    Good hunting.

you wont need a chiller for the tl 550. If you dont want to keep sps and only a lps or two and some softies then go for the tl 550. Decide what you want to stock first. I will make your decision a whole lot easier.happy hunting

i think we can all find different reasons for different models . i have a tl450 and i have done a small mod on the impeller and the skimmer works fine. the lighting is strong enough for my clam and spsses. i think it is personal preference
