    Hi

I've been reading a number of threads on other forums. A lot of the tanks run SIPOREX in the sump. What is it? Is it availible in SA?

Mind you, all the threads I've read that are using siporex are stunning and they are firm believers in it.

    Thanks

its a biological media for housing bacteria for the nitrogen cycle, its a ceramic/sintered glass medium.
they are very effecting and need to be kept clean from debris etc

I have seen one or two setups on reefcentral where the owner used bio rock which is basically ceramic like siporax..my understanding is that if you can manage the very quick nitrite to nitrate conversion so as not to get excessive nutrients, it can work very well..ie in conjunction with carbon dosing or nitrate reactor...both of which are not really ideal for beginners

true, but running siporax with a nice algae refugium will work great
