can add an extra flow pump. they are cheap so no need to rake out a lot for them. and maybe a 3-5kg of LR. try stay away from larger pieces though. they take over the system to easily. also can look at addidng a canister filter on. this will help a lot more with filtration and give you a bit more extra space to put things like carbon in and so forth.

search some of my R.E.E.F Methodology threads, maybe the Reef strategy one first

but of course we will answer any and all questions you have :)

as i mentioned in my first reply, if you go that route and start with good LR and 1-2 fish for the first few weeks/months then all will be ok.

might sound stupid but budget does play a part

this is very true. always make sure to set aside some extra money every month to make sure that when something really bad happens, that you have spare cash to use without putting yourself in trouble. sometimes the smallest of mishaps can can be extremely costly. also if there are ceramic rings or biobalss in the last compartment, please take them out and rather replace that also with small pieces of LR. extra filtration or you can go the seachem Matrix route that @dallasg mentioned earlier. or even both.that doesnt matter at all. the problem with a nano like the TL450 is keeping the parameters stable. and this unfortunately is not a very easy task. you will be doing frequent water changes. dose a bit more of other things. unless adding a sump to the system instead of a canister. will also open you to using better skimmers and greater filtration as your options becomes a lot better. also more stable water temperatures :)

@Dian6430 any LR is good LR. best is to try and get cured LR. can buy at any LFS. just ask if the rock is cured. this will also help shorten the cycle period a bit.

also the stability that was mentioned and maybe invest in Seachem Prime as well. dose the 2 together and you will have better water conditions

The idea of a sump i understand but in my situation it is not an option so i need all the info of doind it just with the tank. What compartment must house what equipment etc and yes there are ceramic rings in the tank. Previous owner had it in, in his marine tank

ok there is nothing wrong with ceramic rings if the compartments are kept squeaky clean

in this order i would suggest:
compartment 1. mechanical fitration: filter floss, changed every time it looks brown, very cheap and effective
compartment 2. the skimmer, small bag of carbon changed every 30 days, can add the premade 100ml bag of purigen from seachem too
compartment 3. seachem matrix/ceramic rings, cant remember if water enters top or bottom here, but put filter floss where the water enters. place the matric or rings in a old onion bag, then once a month give them a gentle shake in tank water and replace
    compartment 4. heater

from compartment 2 to 3 there is a slight gap in the chamber where the water flows through. then from 3-4 it flows through the bottom. but mostly it flows only through the bottom anyway in those chambers. wish i had a pic to show how i set mine up. ran it like that with a external canister for a year. housing 3 had the heater and the inlet to filter and housing 4 with only the outlet from the filter again. joined up to the little hole in the front of compartment 4 with a flow re-director. nice strong flow if you add a strong canister filter on there. nothing more than 700ltr/h will suffice.
