please clarify what you tested? saying something is 100% is of little value unless the actual values are posted.. ;)

sometimes hermits will sit in the same spot for a few days while they molt - you should leave them.
if ther is a bad smell coming from the shell it's in - it's dead...

yip,his molt looks literally like he died and left the shell or vice versa lol.... he then creeps deep into the shell till his new skin is thicker then moves about, they are hardy, you did a good thing dripping it,but thos i usually just dump into the tank and they run around like crazy or they moly as to addapt to new water pars.... again, smell the shell,he might retract deep so u cnt see him ,but if it smells foul, his a goner

hi, I think the problem came in when you acclimated it into your tank, from what Ive been reading it is best to drip acclimate for about 3 hours for invertebrates, even though its a hermit crab and its quite hardy it needs a couple more hours. Maybe the quick acclimatization caused him to expire. Sorry for your loss if hes a goner.

    Hey @JDV ,

Sorry to hear about the loss of Herbie!!! Come to think about it, it would actually be nice to have a page to read up on the signs of an ILL invertibrate... There's many such artickes on the web bout signs of stress for fish, but none tht I've come across in inverts,,,,

Let us know if perhaps you come across something..,

i had an experience like this when i added mine , i was so depressed when i saw pieces on mine lying in my tank, i also thought i have a tank problem

was the funniest thing , when i then saw this large shell moving around my tank about a week later, to my surprise, it was my hermit moving around my tank.
i now call him jesus , as i was sure he was gone.
maybe have a look around the tank for a while and make sure , mine even shed legs again about a day or 2 ago , but i saw him straight after , so i know he is okay
