Hydroid are filter feeders, right hennie?
And i think the don't like light that much, because all of myne grows under my LR

Hydroids tend to be a bad thing, remove rock, burn off, return rock;)

They do have stinging nematocists, just the same as corals and anemones, and yes, they could end up fighting with other life-forms living to close to them (just the same as corals...). They are, however, filter feeders and do a good job of catching and eating detritus. In my opinion, they don't do well long-term in most aquaria (lack of enough food...), and as they normally live on the underside of rocks they don't usually threaten our corals.

I would leave them intact, unless they were growing in a dedicated fry-rearing tank (they could catch and eat baby fish / larvae).

Hennie
