    tks 4 the warm welcome.....
i have alot of the obvious(wateva) questions,so pls bear with me...
gna number them and hopefully print out the asnwers and keep as a kind of reference...
as i satated b4,got the boyu tl 450 or sumthin...only gna setup nxt year and take it real slow...for obvious(wateva) reasons, including cost....quite intersested in creating a thriving biome for crabs and hermits etc...no real immediate plans 4 fish...maybe in the future tho...
    and now 4 the questions....

    1. best media and in what compartments to place them in(4 filter compartments at the back) 1 to 4 ideally.

    2.best substrate to use?

3.should the base of liverock be slightly buried in the substrate?

4.what extra circulation shld i use...eg a nanostream or 2 or what??...actual brand names wld be ideal pls??

5.nsw and lights off for maturation time?? and can i add the water and liverock at diff times....

    tks guys,hopefully u can help me out....later

Hi Ross! A VERY WARM WELCOME to MASA! Great that you have found us and joined MASA!

OK - answers to your questions:
    1) remove ALL the default media that you get WITH the tank:
    - place in there: live rock rubble, phosphate remover, SeaChem Purigen, Activated Carbon
    2) ABSOLUTE BEST (touted to be) CaribSea Pink Aragonite - aragonite in general is "SAID" to be good.
Personally, I would just use Playsand...... BUT, it's your choice in the end.... (aragonite is FAR more expensive than playsand)...
    3) You could have "base rock" made from bio-rock - place this on the glass bottom of the tank, and place the substrate around this. Place the live rock on top of this base-rock. Alternatively, make stand from PCV piping, and place the live rock on the stands
    4) Yes - Nano-stream or 2 will be GREAT..... Actual brand names: Tunze, SEIO
    5) NSW is good. Many people use only NSW... I do - Alan does, Mekaeel does....
Others again believe only on synthetic salt..... You can have lights on for a few hours during the cycling time of your tank. YES - you can, BUT - it is better to have the live rock in the tank from the beginning..... better filtration - better cycling - better/more stable tank....

Good luck with your journey mate!

    Ja boet, WELCOME to MASA

Just one thing, if I may ask (and please don't take this wrongly, it is not a flame...) - PLEASE write in proper English. Internet forums are not SMS messages, and you have a whole, full-sized, keyboard to type on. I (for one...) find it quite difficult to decipher this SMS-speak.

    hi again
    just another question....
if replacing filter media eg bio balls and ceramic rings with
LR rubble or peices, should i just basically fill the chamber to the top
with rubble?...should i put the rubble in a mesh bag?(stocking)
    or what?...

    thanks again guys...take it easy

oh yes,in the compartment(when looking straight on the front of the tank, its the far right one) with the actual uv steriliser i think!...
there is a sponge surrounding the steriliser, should i remove the sponge, and if yes,
what should i replace it with???? if anything at all??
