Is it a stainless fitting with a male and female end each side? With a little T-off and a valve handle?
If yes, it needs to come behind a tap. So you need to screw the tap off and then install, screw the tap back. Remember to use thread tape. If you don't have a tap to go after it, you need to blank it off with a end plug.

Why? Every house/flat's water must be able to turn off. I mean WTF do you do when the geyser pops? :p

the main valve is normally located close to the water meter, otherwise if its like a flat look for a stopcok valve either on the outside walls or in the ground close to the walls.

If you do wanna do it "live", - just open tha bath tap, shower tap, basin tap etc to reduce the pressure...

Personally, if I could not turn the water off, I would use a "tap-in" system - like this.

This is my home RO unit Tap-in.

I'm sure the RO installer guys can get or give you one.... Don't know where to buy them...

Contact zayn at phuturelab. He has a fitting for a ro unit that fits on your outside tap without having to turn the water off
