What is the effect of temp on salinity. When mixing up a batch of fresh salt does the temp make a difference or does the warmer temp just aid in dissolving of the salt?

refractometer normally takes temp into account

    and from nano-reef
"Water temp does NOT affect salinity. Salinity is a measure of solids dissolved per unit liquid. Temp does affect density, which is what a hydrometer measures. Hydrometers are usually calibrated to 75 degrees F, so water at a temp other than that 75 degrees F will read incorrectly. "

    thats why refractometers have ATC

Mariusmeyer once did a whole bunch of tests with different temp water. IIRC the result was that the fluctuations were so minimal that it doesnt really make a difference.

That being said, I always mix my SW at 26C - In my mind i think it makes the salt dissolve better + I dont have to then heat up the water to match temp when doing a wc.....

I have seen that salinity goes up as water gets colder.
this is due to molecular contraction and therefore you having more solids per measure as the molecules get tighter together.

Take a floating hydrometer and chuck it is your dt water in a bowl and watch as the specific gravity increases as the temperature drops.

Not much but it does...... 1.025 to 1.028 can be a problem anyway.

so as you had a spike in temperature you had an increase in PH and a downward spike in salinity.

    Thats what i thought

Don't look at the big spikes they are when the unit was being upgraded or switched off
