    Hi there,

We are still having a problem with brown algae, what can we do for this? Were thinking of doing a 100l water change? Do you think this will solve the problem?

We are using an API test kit which tests for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and ph. All of which are fine:
pH a little low at 8.0, salinity is 1.024/5

Should we be testing for anything else?

    Thanks

What type of brown algae is it? Diatoms? How old is the tank?

The algae is like stringy / furry. Don't know exact type.

The tank is 9 weeks old.

brown algae is normal at 9 weeks, dont do anything but make sure you're water from the RO is phos free and tank has no Phos should clear up. just do your 10% waterchanges weekly or 25% monthly however you do them just make sure they are regular.

Trad is correct. Check your Phos and remember your tank is still cycling give it time it will sort it self out. :)

    Here are those pics

    Howzit Guys

Thanks for the response and to my wife for posting the thread!

i just want to give a bit of history concerning the algae it started before the 20th June firstly on the back crushed corel which covers the filter and then on the floor coral, pet shop said it was normal part of the cycle and that we should add carbon. we then did a 50L water change on the 22nd June (tank is 380L and we do a weekly change of 50L) while removing the 50l we use a vacuum to remove all algae from coral gravel, pet shop guy said that the algea on the back of the tank would disappear after awhile. its been almost two weeks and its still here and growing on the floor gravel again.

while i'm posting these pics i though i would post some others and you all could possible identify a few things for us.

Oh and should we be testing the alkalinity or any else???

    thanks
    Zuv

Zuv - easy.... look at the "Quick Reply" window - IMMEDIATELY BELOW (in the centre) is a URL link: "Quick Upload"....

Click this - and you will get a popup window (you need to enable popups in your browser) - this window will show you the size and limitations of the file-size..... Click on "Browse".... browse you local PC's drives for the photo you want to upload - and then click on "Host It"..... ;)

I think what you are doing is adding pictures to your profile and not posting them. When you write a message you need to click the button that says quick upload and not image uploader.

i've been following these steps from the beginning. from where i'm writing this now in the Quick Reply there is a block directly under this one where i'm writing in the centre of the block is a caption [Quick Upload] i click on that then it brings up another small window where i browse the pic off my computer then i click host it but the picture does not appear in the thread box where i am writing this it appears at the very top of the page, once i go out of the thread and then return back into the thread its gone but it then sits in my uploaded images.

tried it again now its saying "file is not an image", i give up!!!
