water smells fishy!

    Its week 5 of my tank cycle is this normal to have a fishy smell.. Have not tested water yet!

    Its not when you open the tank lid! Rather when u stick your hand in! I use a swing arm hydrometer and stuck it in! Pulled out my arm and picked up the smell

    Still shouldn't smell like that. Is there a film of oil or similar on the water surface? How much flow do you have in the tank, what type of filtration are you relying on?

    well, the first thing to do, is get the water tested. Most likely due to the cycle process.

    The tank has enough flow! The tank has just cleared up after a diatom bloom. Using a venturi skimmer with DSB and refugium chamber! Using a quad filter!

    Add activated carbon, skim wetter & look for anything that might have died in your tank!
