    Hi all

    My tank is new.
I have live rock and everything going.
How often do I have to change my water?
    it is a 300L tank.
Do I have to use RO water? or is the 2 Oceans water supply good enough?

RO is only to replace EVAPORATED water.
2 Oceans Salt water is used for water change.

    How old is your tank?

some people 10% a month others do 10% per week, you will figure it out as you go along no 2 tanks are the same.
While your tank is cycling I would not change the water. Just top it up if there is some evaporation with RO water.

I would not do a water change during the cycle period, just let things run it's natural course during this period.

Also no lights during this period.

If the live rock is not cured then by all means do a partial change, you decide it is up to you, 10 % once a week if you want. Clean your skimmer often.

I do not believe that you will get a concise reply to your question.

Try a number of different options till you find one that works for you, you must be comfortable with your maintenance process. But remember that this hobby is actually an atempt to maintain the best water quality for all your inhabitants.

I personally did no water change during the first 2 months, only added fish after 2 and a 1/2 months.

    I change 100 l about 1 time a month now. So 20% a month.

Hope it helps, don't worry, just ask.
    Cheers and enjoy.

RO unit can be purchases, but not a necessity.

LFS supply this. This being RO water.

I get mine from a shop that sells bottled water. My 500 l uses about 15 l in summer a week. So costs R 60 a month.

Buy the sound of it, its 10% of water change. so that is like one 25L barrel for me :)
so If my water evaporates can I just top it up with water(marine water)?

Man you had to buy the ro unit before even getting the tank. Ro water connects to the water supply at home and purifies the water similar to bottle water, with much lower tds. The ro unit will save you from buying water and time. For you 300L tank depending on bio load and type filteration, normally 30L water chage every 2nd week will do.

No, evaporation is replaced with RO.

When you do your maintenance, a planned water change, skimmer clean, etc and you drain 10% from your tank then replace that with sea water.

Bottle water has tds readings over 60. Ro units generaly have 0 tds readinds. I would rather use tap water personally than had to buy bottle water.

Thanks, did not realize that, about time I have my water tested then, both tape and bottled water. Been doing this for about 2 years, you learn a new thing with this hobby all the time.
