Generally volume of your system is the total water volume.
But you don't want to go and change the full amount...

Never change out the entire volume of your display tank - where will the fish go?

Nothing is set in stone but a routine water change can be anything from 5 to 25 percent volume. Frequency is also flexible, from weekly to monthly... To as required!!!!!

10% of the total system volume is the best number to go (weekly)

I used to do weekly water changes but water parameters never stayed consistant since doing smaller water changes every second week had better results with growth to my sps pieces but my aim is to push for a month or even more between water changes
