    Hi Hiralall

30% per week for a new tank could be a bit much, you need to give your tank time to cycle a bit maybe do 30% every 2 weeks or 15% every week. Do you have any live stock in yet?

    Hi and Welcome to MASA!

30% once a week in my opinion is a little much to start with. As your tank is only 6 weeks old it is still cycling. Most guys might do a 10% weekly or 20% every 2 weeks or maybe a 30% once a month. I personally do just over 20% every 3 weeks. I keep track of all the changes in a little diary. So I would say calm in down and perhaps try one of the % changes mentioned above!;)

Hi Hiralall - in my personal opinion - it's a COMPLETE waste to do water changes during the cycling period. Also - you have NO lifestock in the tank yet, right?

Only start doing water changes when your cycle has completed, and you ready to start adding lifestock. Else - you just constantly introducing new nutrients into a system, that is not stable at all yet. And the bacteria struggles from the beginning to cope with the newly added nutrients......

    Hi Iralall

You are wasting time and money you should only do water changes once the tank has cycled

Like the guys have said, stop the changes till the tank has cycled and then you can start with changes. You can do 10 percent per week or fifty percent in one shot, it all depends on your time and budget

Hi guys - i would like to find out what the consensus is on using sea water for water changes - I want to use water from ballito - specifically near the tidal rock pools to get some pod life?

NSW is great for water changes, just be aware of the risk of adding unwanted diseases or critter eggs to your system is always there.

That is an excellent spot to collect water. Alan collects his water from there.
