Hi, I have used aqua medic salt for more than 2 years. I changed to an alternate for 6 months and have now returned to aqua medic. Found when I mixed the first batch (50 lt) it turned yellow after 5 hours in mixing drum. Thought it was my RO so changed all filters and repeated with same result. Now told by LFS that this is normal as Aqua medic now adding a new supplement. Anybody else experienced this?

Eish! How old is your drum you mixing it in, maybe something "new" in the salt is reacting with the drum?

    :(:(Back again!

Mixing drum flushed with RO before mixing.

Dog sleeps outside!! Mixing done inside.

Took salt back to LFS who mixed with their RO in their bucket with same yellowing result! assured me that will have no effect on Tank. (going back to top I used Brightwell in the 6 months-same mixer same RO filter and membrane but no yellowing..)

It is unique to Aqua medic reef salt and occurs 4-6 hours after mixing.:(

The problem might be batch specific, I too use AM salt and have never experienced this problem, I would return it and demand new salt.

I wouldn't just take the LFS word that it wont have any effect on your tank.

thanks for response. This is 25 kg buckets and they claim to sell 30 buckets per month. So my worry is getting another bucket from same batch. will try for refund and purchase elsewhere.

    :)

You can even claim protection under the CPA (I think).

No, i dont think so. you would need a loss for that.

I think its more the shlep of having to go all the way back to swap the item. I've had issues in the pst with products. i just take it back to the LFS, happend twice at 2 different LFS's and they just replaced the item.
