    Hey all,

Every time I make water I waste alot of it too and I make about 150L per week and we all know how much is wasted.

    - want to know if there is anyway to reduce the water we waste?

yes there is, there are two ways you can do this:

    1. You can use a holding drum for your waste water then use the high presure RO pump to pump that back through your membrane.

    2. You can buy two additional membranes and loop them (this is what I am doing now) so I have three membranes and the resin. I get much better water production and about 10% wasteage right now.....

:banghead::banghead:Thanks, I will try it out.
Option 2 can you please explain this, my brain can not see how you do this.
My water pressure is so low that it takes me 4 hours to make 25L.

Low water pressure is a problem esp if you going to go with the multiple membranes.
So think of it as a loop...... The main line that comes from the bottom two filters goes into Membrane 1, that goes into membrane 2 and then into membrane 3 and out again. @the waterboy sorted it out for me, I wasn't in the movie of waiting for water and felt to guilty throwing away so much water.

If you have to get a High Pressure pump (which it sounds like you need) you could prb do both the reuse of the water and multiple membranes. I don't have a water pressure issue :0

And if I connect the waste to another RO unit, do you think it will work?

I just run mine into the garden. You wetting garden anyway, so not wasting. I connected a normal hose to the waste outlet, so can move it around to different spots.

the saltwater TDS is extremely high. 50000 or more. Google it, do not have the correct value.

Tap water is 70 to 130 up to 220, depending on where you stay. Your membranes last longer if you have a low TDS on the input water. And at the cost of the membranes, it cheaper to just throw the water away.

I keep my old water change for one week in separate container. For emergency backup. Yes there is a lot of die-off. But having 80L old water with die-off in it is better than having none. Every weekend my WC schedule starts by emptying my emergence holding container, do the normal water change. Then store the waste water again.

Plants generally get it, sure it can be turn into an irrigation system. We have the water mains worked on every few months, so its also used to fill the toilet cistern, can be bathed in. Can drink it as its gone through a couple filters.
