    Hi Guys,

I'm starting to fill my 400 liter tank this weekend. I'm in search of good quality LR. My last resort is going to the LFS and paying them R180 p/kg.

    I'm in Cape Town

Please recommend any reefers I can speak too?

    Thanks

Gents, just a quick question about cycling and cured LR,

Is there any point putting cured LR in a cycling tank, wont all living organisms just die off with the ammonia spike?

    Just curious ???

no alot of stuff and even SOME HARDY fish can survive but its cruel firstly to do that to any fish and secondly fish quickly add ALOT more ammonia thus increasing the bioload and possibly killing themselves/make the cycle even longer.

You can add bacteria like seachem stability, prodibio or even brightwells microbacter 7 to help with rapid bacterial colonisation and shorten the cycle a bit.

The point is with cured live rock there is generally much less die off if you treat the rock as you would a live fish or coral.so keep it in stable temp and oxygen rich water for a short time only then you should get minimal die off/hence not so severe ammonia spike.
