    one or 2 pumps?

The old drivers can be controlled by the ES. I got one of each, and using for example feed mode on ES does put the old driver in feed mode. Same for sleep etc.

By the way, there are 2 MP40's available in the for sale forum. Nice price.

How big system are you planning - The ecosmart will be the best bet but you will need 3 or more pumps to use the nutrient export function. I have the MP40w and use short pulse for a few days and long pulse for a few days. I have 2 x MP40w and was thinking of adding 2xMP10w in the centers to increase flow a bit or 1 more mp40w. They are excellent pumps.

I just got the ES driver, had the normal one before. The ES has some cool modes and is easier to adjust but besides that it is the same thing.

im just holding onto 2 in case i go bigger than my current 4ft..

Yip agree, ES is just easier to control. other than that, the pump is exactly the same thing.
I got 2 MP40 on a standard 1.2m system. Full blast and everything moves. To powerfull. Running on reef mode only on 2 lights strength. Like 20% normally. When I want to give the fish some exersize I set it to full power for 10 minutes.
